When the hatch over the wing finally clicks open, it quickly becomes very clear that everyone up to speed is dead – although there is no sign of any kind of trauma or struggle. Ephraim Goodweather and his group from the guts for Disease Control must work quickly to determine the reason for this strange incident before anxiety spreads.

The first thing they discover is that four from the victims are actually still alive. But that is the only good news. So when all two hundred corpses disappear from numerous morgues around the city on the same night, things very rapidly worsen. Shortly Eph and a little band of helpers will see themselves battling to protect not merely their own loved ones, but the entire city, against an ancient threat to humanity.
