This year 2010, Sergeant Craig Grossi was doing intelligence work for Marine RECON-the most top notch fighters in the Corps-in a remote a part of Afghanistan. While on patrol, he spotted a young pup ‘with a large goofy mind and little hip and legs’ who didn’t appear vicious or run within a pack like most about Craig & Fred: A Marine, A Stray Pet, and exactly how They Rescued ONE ANOTHER strays they’d experienced. After eating a bit of beef jerky Craig offered-against armed service regulations-the dog begun to follow him. ‘Looks as if you made a pal,’ another Sea yelled. Grossi noticed, ‘Looks just like a ‘Fred.” The name trapped, and a lovely, life-changing camaraderie was forged.

Fred not only stole Craig’s heart; he earned over the RECON fighters, who helped Craig smuggle the dog into seriously fortified Camp Leatherneck in a duffel bag-risking jail and Fred’s lifestyle. By using a team of DHL workers, a sympathetic vet, and a military pet handler, Fred eventually managed to get to Craig’s family in Virginia.

Months later, when Craig returned towards the U.S., it was Fred’s turn to save the wounded Sea from Post-Traumatic Stress. Today, Craig and Fred are touching lives countrywide, from a swampy campground inside a Louisiana State Park towards the roads of Portland, Oregon, and almost everywhere in between.
