Following the end from the EnterpriseTM’s five-year mission, Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock, and Dr. McCoy battle to establish new lives apart from each other as well as the starship. The newly-promoted Admiral Kirk is positioned responsible for a specially-created Starfleet division and attempts to defuse a crucial hostage situation; Mr. Spock, who, amid a teaching project on Vulcan, discovers the thing he least anticipated; and Dr. McCoy, whose unerring instinct for difficulty lands him smack in the center of an occurrence that could cause an interstellar bloodbath.
