Bass Reeves was born into slavery. And even though the laws of his country enslaved him and his mom, when he became a free of charge guy he served the law with such courage and honor that he was known and reputed all over the Indian Place. Gary Paulsen’s dramatic account of the life span of Bass Reeves, through tales both actual and imagined, makes him stand out as a youngster and a man. Listeners will truly realize why he became a story.
