Following the orphanage she lives in is destroyed by fire, Betty, an innocent and trusting teen, requires a job as a maid in Kingston, Ontario. Welcomed into the household from the rich Remington clan, Betty makes close friends using the personnel at the house and quickly discovers that her mother had been a maid there-and that her father is in a nearby jail, convicted of murdering her mother. When she meets her dad, she is astonished by his statements of innocence, and she decides to try to uncover the reality about her mother’s murder and her father’s conviction. An agreeable young policeman assists her in her analysis (and shows a pastime in Betty that’s more romantic than professional). But all isn’t well in the Remington household, and somebody doesn’t need Betty to learn the truth.
