Predicated on Ernest J. Gaines’ National Book Critics Circle Award-winning book, A Lesson Before Dying is defined in a small Louisiana Cajun community in the past due 1940’s. Jefferson, a young illiterate black man, is falsely convicted of murder and is sentenced to death. Give Wiggins, the plantation schoolteacher, agrees to talk with the condemned guy. The disheartened Wiggins got once harbored dreams of escaping from his impoverished youngsters, yet he returned to his home town after university, to instruct children whose lives appeared as unpromising as Jefferson’s. The two males forge a connection as they arrive to comprehend what this means to resist and defy one’s personal fate.
