Summary:

Boston Blackie-the amateur detective who was the enemy to those that produce him an enemy, friend to those who have no friend!

Created by article author Jack port Boyle, Boston Blackie was a reformed jewel thief and safecracker, constantly suspected of crimes he did not commit and forced to perform the role of detective to clear his name. His girlfriend, Mary Wesley, helped Blackie from time to time, as do his pal Shorty. Forced to defend himself against the accusations of NY Law enforcement Inspector Faraday, about Boston Blackie, Vol. 3 Blackie always managed to stay one stage prior to the cops in resolving a crime.

The wisecracks exchanged between Blackie and Faraday produced the program a satisfying mix of comedy and secret. Chester Morris performed the character in fifteen Boston Blackie movies for Columbia. When The Amos ‘n’ Andy Show needed a summer months replacement unit in 1944, Morris was lured towards the NBC mike for a short-lived Boston Blackie series. The next 12 months, Boston Blackie was syndicated by Ziv with Dorothy Kilgallen’s spouse, Dick Kollmar, in the name part. This syndicated series lasted until 1950. In 1951, the series produced the jump to tv starring Kent Taylor as Blackie, Lois Collier as Mary, and Frank Orth as Faraday.
