Summary:
A true crime story cannot often be thought, at least at the beginning. In Bowraville, all three from the victims were Aboriginal. All three had been wiped out within five a few months, between 1990 and 1991. The same white guy was associated with each, but nobody was convicted.
More than 2 decades afterwards, homicide detective Gary Jubelin contacted Dan Container, asking him to pursue this serial killing. In those days, few others in the justice system seemed to know – or treatment – about the murders in Bowraville. Dan spoke about Bowraville to the families of the victims, Colleen Walker-Craig, Evelyn Greenup and Clinton Speedy-Duroux, as well as the attorneys, police officers and even the suspect involved with what had happened. His investigation, as well as the households’ own identified campaigning, forced the authorities to reconsider the killings. This account asks painful queries in what ‘justice’ means and exactly how it is delivered, aswell as describing Dan’s own shifting, unpleasant realisation that he was a reporter who crossed the series.
Compliment for the Bowraville podcast:
‘It is a gripping accurate crime tale and an article on racism; difficult to the lies Australia tells itself about its treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people told through the voices of three Aboriginal families who’ve been indisputably disappointed . The podcast provides galvanised the public in a manner that 2 decades of printing and television confirming around the Bowraville murders never have.’ The Guardian
‘A masterful exemplory case of criminal offense reporting which forensically details the worst of human nature, inexplicably compounded from the gross negligence of the only people who could offer justice. It’s stirred thousands, including the primary suspect, to re-engage using the case after trusting the journalist to consider them to dark areas.’ Walkley judges’ responses
‘Exceptional.’ Leigh Sales
‘Moving, brilliant.’ Annabel Crabb
‘If you haven’t paid attention to Bowraville by Dan Box, you then should.’ David Campbell
