When real life couple George Melts away and Gracie Allen worked together in vaudeville, George was the comic and his wife Gracie had the directly lines. They switched their jobs upon finding that Gracie’s delivery got a bigger giggle than George’s punch lines. The duo became a large strike on vaudeville and in movies therefore when radio beckoned, they delivered. Their initial regular radio function was as supporting players on CBS’s The Guy Lombardo Display in the 1930s.
