Intercepting a stress call, the TARDIS is certainly attracted to a Shinto shrine in medieval Japan, where the Doctor and Amy are met by town elder Shijô Sada. He explains how the ogre-like mannequins surrounding the holy site are safe guardians, called Otoroshi. In the centre of the temple can be an ancient jade pyramid, therefore sacred that only the monks may consider it. However the Shogun, the ruler of Japan, wants to contain the pyramid and has ordered seven samurai and a band of soldiers to come quickly to Kokan and seize it.
