Summary:
Harkness is not a hero-but unfortunately for him, he’s been volunteered by his town to save the world, and he quickly finds that modern-day sarcasm is zero match for ancient dragons.
Harkness, a medieval peasant with a millennial’s state of mind, is quite happy to relax and help to make quips while everybody else will the effort. His determined laziness is usually interrupted when the gods send out a historical and awful scourge-by-dragonfire upon his village, and he is forced (peer-pressured, actually) about Dragons Suck into attempting to save his fiancee in the dragon who has kidnapped her.
When Harkness is delivered by the village elder to get the one tool that is with the capacity of getting rid of the beast, his real strategy is to go off by himself and make use of his village’s cash to live the high existence. This, of course, would need ditching his two companions: Karla, an aspiring troubadour whose enthusiasm makes up for her insufficient adventuring skills, and Aldric, whose kindheartedness does not replace his lack of intelligence. Harkness views this journey being a paid vacation beneath the pretense of world-saving, nonetheless it quickly turns severe when he realizes what’s on the line when he’s forced to really care about something-or at the very least, pretend to.
