Summary:

Four months following the Battle, the town of Gettysburg was changed again – this time for the dedication of the Military’ Country wide Cemetery. On November 18, 1863, Abraham Lincoln and a trainload of dignitaries arrived in Gettysburg for the commitment on the 19th. Lincoln was here for just twenty-four hours nonetheless it was perhaps one of the most historical appointments of his presidency. We realize today that the highlight of the wedding ceremony was the conversation he delivered during the cemetery’s commitment, the short speech about Lincoln at Gettysburg that became The Gettysburg Address. This tour begins on the train station and comes after the route that Lincoln walked through the procession to the cemetery. We’ll walk the same roads that noticed the Union retreat on July 1st and then the procession to the cemetery a couple of months later. On the way, we’ll hear from lots of the townspeople that observed the famous go to and we’ll stop at a number of the locations that hosted Lincoln and several of the participants in this historical gathering. Writer Christine Thomas, provides us with vivid accounts from diaries and newspapers even as we make our way through the city, up Cemetery Hill towards the Troops’ National Cemetery, the website from the Gettysburg Address.
