After a three-year stint, with the Vietnam War heating up, he attended college on the School of Wisconsin in River Falls, where he also served being a officer. He graduated from US Army Ranger College and acquired a payment while serving in the Wisconsin Military National Guard. Fate intervened when he learned that the FBI needed agents.
