Summary:
Christine Temetri is at her wits’ end. For a long time she’s covered the increasingly bizarre activities of End Moments cults for the Banner, a spiritual news magazine. However Christine, who once dreamed of being truly a “actual” writer, offers nothing to show for the gig other than a regular salary and serious doubt that Armageddon will happen in time on her behalf following deadline. But after a secret man entrusts her having a locked briefcase and orders to “consider it to Mercury,” Christine discovers herself face-to-face with about Mercury Falls a ping-pong-playing angel with the name of Galileo Mercury. It seems Mercury was delivered from heaven to create preparations for Armageddon, yet became sidetracked by the earthly delights he uncovered: Rice Krispy treats, table tennis, and beer, to name just a couple. Mercury’s concern for the destiny of mankind is certainly middling at best, but he is happy to educate Christine on the details from the elaborate, if poorly structured, calamity to arrive. When Christine inadvertently will save the Antichrist – an obnoxious, thirtysomething gamer who still lives with his mom – from celestial assassination, she starts an ambitious fight to avoid the Apocalypse and save the world. But the heavenly sponsor is nothing if not persistent, and Christine, aided just by an apathetic angel and a reluctant Antichrist, provides her function cut out on her behalf. Filled with outrageous characters, Mercury Falls is definitely a viciously funny (and sometimes absurd) morality tale for the twenty-first hundred years.
