Perhaps one of the most initial psychoanalysts after Freud, Karen Horney pioneered such now-familiar ideas seeing that alienation, self-realization, as well as the idealized image, and she brought to psychoanalysis a new knowledge of the need for lifestyle and environment.
Karen Horney was born in Hamburg in 1885 and studied on the College or university of Berlin, receiving her medical level in 1913. From 1914 to 1918 she analyzed psychiatry at Berlin-Lankwitz, Germany, and from 1918 to 1932 taught at the Berlin about Neurosis and Human being Growth: The Struggle toward Self-Realization Psychoanalytic Institute. She participated in many international congresses, among them the historic debate of lay evaluation chaired by Sigmund Freud.
Dr. Horney came to america in 1932 and for just two years was associate director of the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis. In 1934 she came to New York and was an associate from the teaching personnel of the brand new York Psychoanalytic Institute until 1941, when she became among the founders from the Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis as well as the American Institute for Psychoanalysis.
In Neurosis and Human being Development, Dr. Horney discusses the neurotic procedure as a particular form of individual advancement: the antithesis of healthful development. She unfolds the different stages of the situation, describing neurotic statements, the tyranny of internal dictates, and the neurotic’s solutions for relieving the tensions of discord in such psychological attitudes as domination, self-effacement, dependency, or resignation. Throughout, she outlines with penetrating understanding the forces that function for and against the person’s realization of his or her potentialities.
