Summary:
As a Jewish guy in 17th century Amsterdam, Baruch de Spinoza excelled as a theological student; but simply because he encountered free-thinking Protestants, atheists, and radicals within this relatively tolerant town, he started to query his religious beliefs and the nature of God.
