Summary:

One night time in Apr 2014, members from the terrorist organization Boko Haram raided the tiny town of Chibok in northeast Nigeria and abducted 276 girls from the neighborhood boarding school. The event caused massive, international outrage. Using the hashtag ‘Bring Back Our Young ladies,’ politicians, activists, and celebrities from all around the world-among them First Lady Michelle Obama and Nobel Serenity Prize winner Malala Yousafzai-protested.

Some of the women were able to escape and honor being successful about Stolen Women: Survivors of Boko Haram Tell Their Tale journalist Wolfgang Bauer spent several weeks with them as they recounted their ordeal. In Stolen Women, he gives voice to these women, allowing them to speak for themselves-about their lives prior to the abduction, about the horrors throughout their captivity, and their dreams of an improved potential. Bauer’s reportage is normally complemented by over a dozen spectacular portraits by honor winning professional photographer Andy Spyra.

Bauer also examines the historical and political history from the Islamist terror in the center of Africa, teaching how Boko Haram functions and describing the damage it did towards the fragile balance of ethnicities and ethnicities in another of the world’s most diverse areas.
