Through the ages, men of flair, faculty and outstanding courage have contributed with their country’s heritage. Others, like the snivelling worm Edmund, Duke of Edinburgh (alias ‘The Dark Adder’), have emerged from the dust of dodgy records to state their wrongful place ever sold… This historic first series released us to Rowan Atkinson’s initial incarnation as Dark Adder – the incompetent, bitter and twisted son of Richard, Duke of York, who, by using his trusty (and similarly stinky) aide, Baldrick (Tony Robinson), and Percy (Tim McInnerny) starts his slithering trip through the age groups, scheming for a less strenuous life, an improved position as well as perhaps even a shot in the throne itself. The initial series also superstars Brian Blessed as Richard IV, Peter Make as Richard III, Miriam Margolyes as the Infanta Maria of Spain and Rik Mayall as Mad Gerald. Episodes consist of: ‘The Foretelling’, ‘The Queen of Spain’s Beard’, ‘Delivered to Be King’, ‘Witchsmeller Pursuivant’, ‘Archbishop’ and ‘The Dark Seal’.
