Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s detective genius, Sherlock Holmes, found NBC radio in 1930 starring Richard Gordon. By 1939, Basil Rathbone was heard as Holmes with Nigel Bruce as Doctor Watson. The duo was simultaneously starring in a favorite series of Sherlock Holmes features for Fox, and afterwards for Universal. By the end of the feature work in the mid 1940’s, Rathbone was eager to individual himself from the air show in order to avoid getting typecast, and even though the present’s sponsor (Petri Wines) offered about The New Travels of Sherlock Holmes, Collection 2 him large pay to continue, he made a decision to proceed. Tom Conway had taken over with Nigel Bruce carrying on as Watson (within this paring Nigel Bruce received best billing). Tom Conway and Nigel Bruce had been replaced in 1947 by John Stanley and Alfred Shirley.
