The world has ended, the inactive walk the planet earth, and a profound silence has fallen on the land.

You will find no more cars to be heard chugging down the dirt road on the base of the driveway. You will find no more airplanes painting vapor trails over the sky. Forget about air conditioners thrumming in windows, no more dogs barking in the length. The world is getting settled once again.

Two children, brother and sister, survive collectively on an isolated Montana farm. Their times are simple — find meals, avoid the lifeless. They will be the remnants of civilization, refugees from a vanished globe.

Whispers of a new civilization in the brand new Mexico desert and an opportunity encounter using a band of renegade soldiers convinces these to strike from the open road, to get away from the relative protection of the farm and fall in with strangers.

However the living may be worse compared to the dead.
