Summary:
Passionate havoc ensues in the city of Shower when Sir Anthony arrives to set up the marriage of his son Captain Jack Absolute towards the rich Lydia Languish. Jack and Lydia are already in love, but because of Lydia’s obsession with intimate novels, Jack provides disguised himself as an unhealthy officer called Ensign Beverly – and he is only one of Lydia’s many suitors. The Competitors was Sheridan’s initial play, which charming comedy of manners is still widely performed today.
