Jim DiGriz is caught during one of his crimes and recruited into the Particular Corps. Boring, routine desk function during his probationary period results in his finding that someone is definitely building a battleship, thinly disguised as an industrial vessel. In the relaxing League nobody has battleships any longer, so the builder of this one would be unstoppable. DiGriz’ hunt for the guilty becomes a personal fight between himself and the stunning but lethal Angelina, who’s planning for a coup on one from the feudal worlds. DiGriz’ problem is whether he’ll turn Angelina over to the Unique Corps, or sign up for with her, since he has fallen in love with her.
