In the first 1970’s, author and radio host Studs Terkel went around the united states using a reel-to-reel tape recorder interviewing people about their jobs. The effect was the bestselling reserve Working. The fantastic interviewer of his time, Terkel celebrated the uncelebrated, and Functioning elevated the tales of ordinary people and their daily lives.

For over four years, the Working tapes were packed about Working in America: THE VERY BEST of Studs Terkel’s Working Tapes apart in Terkel’s home office and remained unheard-until now. Partnering using the Chicago History Museum and the Studs Terkel Archives, Project& was presented with exclusive access to the initial recordings and spent a calendar year dealing with Radio Diaries preparing them for the globe to hear within the national multimedia initiative, Working in America. The result is a sensational audio documentary that catches the voices of Americans from vastly differing backgrounds, each reflecting for the benefits, the challenges, as well as the often surprising value of work within their lives. Four years later, we listen to from some of these same people because they think about their primary interviews-and for the startling changes in their lives since.
